In a world that increasingly questions the effects of extractivism, climate change and man's impact on the planet in general, what are the possible futures that await us?



TOMORROWS – Notes on the future of the Earth è un progetto della durata di un anno che propone una riflessione transdisciplinare nel campo dell'ecologia e della sostenibilità per affrontare temi come l'interconnessione tra gli esseri viventi, la biodiversità, le dinamiche socio-culturali, l'interazione dell'uomo con l'ambiente, e per esplorare alternative sostenibili alle attuali dinamiche estrattive e ai problemi ambientali. TOMORROWS – Notes on the future of the Earth is a year-long project that proposes transdisciplinary reflection in the field of ecology and sustainability to address issues such as the interconnectedness of living things, biodiversity, socio-cultural dynamics, human interaction with the environment, and to explore sustainable alternatives to current extractive dynamics and environmental problems.

Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award è il nuovo e prestigioso premio sostenuto da UniCredit, ideato, organizzato e promosso da Urbs Picta con la collaborazione di Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea - Università di Verona, Veronafiere S.p.A., nell’ambito dell’articolato progetto TOMORROWS – Notes on the future of the Earth, presentato all’interno di ArtVerona 2023 e volto a portare l’attenzione sulla relazione tra arte e sostenibilità.

Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award is the new and prestigious award supported by UniCredit, conceived, organized and promoted by Urbs Picta with the collaboration of Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea - University of Verona, Veronafiere S.p.A., as part of the articulated project TOMORROWS - Notes on the future of the Earth, presented within ArtVerona 2023 and aimed at bringing attention to the relationship between art and sustainability.
 LUANA PERILLI È LA VINCITRICE DEL PREMIO TOMORROWS UNICREDIT AWARD

L’artista romana, presentata da The Gallery Apart, con il progetto “Alcina” vuole indagare le relazioni tra comunità femminili e territori, ridefinendo al tempo stesso il perimetro dei saperi scientifici delle donne intorno all’etnobotanica e l’etnozoologia.

Questa la motivazione dei giurati: “Luana Perilli ha concepito un progetto artistico complesso, rilevante e attento alle necessità e alle preoccupazioni odierne. La sua proposta si impegna a favorire un ampio dibattito e una collaborazione tra le arti e le scienze, mettendo allo stesso tempo in discussione il concetto stesso di scienza attraverso genealogie alternative di produzione di conoscenza strutturate sulle storie delle donnə. La natura investigativa del suo lavoro è un potente esempio di ricerca sociobiologica interspecifica intrecciata con conoscenze indigene e mostra competenze e sensibilità che includono e vanno oltre ciò che è generalmente considerato “artistico”, prospettando risultati multimediali basati sull’esperienza diretta del territorio e sviluppati collettivamente attraverso pratiche comunitarie”.

The Roman artist, presented by The Gallery Apart, with her project "Alcina" aims to investigate the relationships between women's communities and territories, while redefining the perimeter of women's scientific knowledge around ethnobotany and ethnozoology.

This is the jurors' motivation: "Luana Perilli has conceived a complex, relevant artistic project attentive to today's needs and concerns. Her proposal is committed to fostering a broad debate and collaboration between the arts and sciences, while at the same time challenging the very concept of science through alternative genealogies of knowledge production structured on the histories of donnə. The investigative nature of her work is a powerful example of interspecific sociobiological research interwoven with indigenous knowledge, and shows skills and sensitivities that include and go beyond what is generally considered "artistic," envisioning multimedia outcomes based on direct experience of the land and developed collectively through community practices."

Sono stati segnalati dalla giuria i progetti di Stefano Caimi e Oliver Ressler con una menzione speciale. Caimi, artista-architetto lombardo e docente di computer art rappresentato dalla galleria The Flat – Massimo Carasi, ha presentato “Lympha” per raccontare gli effetti del cambiamento climatico attraverso installazioni che, da una parte, monitorando i parametri ambientali e lo stato delle piante, verificano lo stato di salute dell’ecosistema, mentre dall’altra restituiscono i dati raccolti in ambiente come suoni e/o immagini per divulgare il lavoro dei ricercatori, le tematiche ambientali e l’incontro di arte e scienza. Il lavoro di Ressler, artista e regista austriaco proposto da The Gallery Apart, consiste in “Storage Blocks”, prototipi di sedute fisiche costituiti da plastiche biologiche che assorbono CO2 e si configurano sia come opera d’arte sia come oggetto atto all’utilizzo.
Projects by Stefano Caimi and Oliver Ressler were singled out for special mention by the jury. Caimi, an artist-architect from Lombardy and a lecturer in computer art represented by The Flat - Massimo Carasi gallery, presented "Lympha" to tell the story of the effects of climate change through installations that, on the one hand, monitor environmental parameters and the state of plants to check the health of the ecosystem, while on the other hand, return the data collected in the environment as sounds and/or images to popularize the work of researchers, environmental issues and the meeting of art and science. The work of Ressler, an Austrian artist and filmmaker proposed by The Gallery Apart, consists of "Storage Blocks," physical seating prototypes made of biological plastics that absorb CO2 and are configured as both a work of art and an object suitable for use.
