A Land of Water
Il progetto 2024-2025 invita a riflettere non solo sul fascino e sull’importanza dell’acqua, ma anche su sfide e minacce che essa affronta. La crisi idrica diventa una metafora della più ampia crisi ambientale, richiamando l’attenzione sulla necessità di proteggere e preservare le risorse del nostro pianeta.
L’arte si propone come mezzo per rileggere il passato, analizzare il presente ed esplorare scenari futuri, invitandoci a considerare la nostra responsabilità nell’affrontare la crisi ambientale e nel garantire un equilibrio sostenibile per la vita sulla Terra.
L’intero progetto propone fino a ottobre 2025 due mostre e un ricco programma pubblico, sostenuti da Fondazione Cariverona, e la seconda edizione del premio Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award

Anticipa la tematica, con un focus sulla città di Verona, Panta Rei
Attraverso le opere d’arte e azioni specifiche del programma pubblico si intende così indagare il tema delle acque urbane nel passaggio da un rapporto simbiotico a un rapporto oppositivo, osservando le trasformazioni della città scaligera in relazione al suo fiume.
Il vasto programma pubblico, sostenuto da Fondazione Cariverona, intercetta i focus di indagine di entrambe le esposizioni articolandosi in momenti di ricerca e dibattito scientifico, un convegno, una residenza d’artista, momenti formativi e laboratori per le scuole e le famiglie, oltre ad azioni di divulgazione e coinvolgimento del grande pubblico, come concerti in occasione delle inaugurazioni delle due mostre, una rassegna cinematografica ed esplorazioni del territorio.
The 2024-2025 project invites reflection not only on the fascination and importance of water, but also on the challenges and threats it faces. The water crisis becomes a metaphor for the broader environmental crisis, drawing attention to the need to protect and preserve our planet's resources.
Art is proposed as a means to reread the past, analyze the present and explore future scenarios, inviting us to consider our responsibility in addressing the environmental crisis and ensuring a sustainable balance for life on Earth.
The entire project features two exhibitions and a rich public program until October 2025, supported by Fondazione Cariverona, and the second edition of the Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award that promotes artistic research related to urgent issues on environmental sustainability.
Pivotal action the exhibition TOMORROWS - A Land of Water at Castel San Pietro: the exhibition itinerary, focused for 2024 on the theme of water, will present video works by international artists for a wide-ranging analysis of the dynamics related to the water crisis also in a social and geopolitical sense.
Anticipating the theme, with a focus on the city of Verona, Panta Rei, a rearrangement of the spaces of Fondazione Cariverona's headquarters in Palazzo Pellegrini that celebrates the return after a long absence of Arturo Martini's Woman Swimming Underwater, to which an entire project room is dedicated.
Through the artworks and specific actions of the public program, it is thus intended to investigate the theme of urban water in its transition from a symbiotic to an oppositional relationship, observing the transformations of the Scaliger city in relation to its river.
The extensive public program, supported by Fondazione Cariverona, intercepts the focus of investigation of both exhibitions by articulating into moments of research and scientific debate, a conference, an artist residency, educational moments and workshops for schools and families, as well as actions of dissemination and involvement of the general public, such as concerts on the occasion of the openings of the two exhibitions, a film festival and explorations of the territory.

Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award
Torna il prestigioso premio sostenuto da UniCredit, ideato, organizzato e promosso da Urbs Picta, con la curatela di Jessica Bianchera e la collaborazione di Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea – Università di Verona e Veronafiere S.p.A. – ArtVerona a sostegno della ricerca artistica sul tema della sostenibilità ambientale.
Le candidature si apriranno il prossimo luglio e il bando è rivolto ad artiste e artisti, o collettivi, rappresentati dalle Gallerie che partecipano ad ArtVerona 2024.
Anche per la sua seconda edizione si rivolge ad artiste e artisti, o collettivi, rappresentati dalle gallerie che partecipano ad ArtVerona 2024, nota fiera d’arte contemporanea scaligera, invitati a proporre progetti di ricerca transdisciplinare, in collaborazione con scienziati, antropologi o esperti di ecologia e sostenibilità, finalizzati alla produzione di una nuova opera d’arte attraverso residenze in Italia e/o all’estero, che consentiranno all’artista di entrare in contatto con differenti esperienze culturali e scientifiche.
In linea con la prima edizione, una rinnovata giuria composta da selezionati artisti, curatori, esperti e studiosi di fama internazionale decreterà il progetto vincitore.
Il Premio di residenza e produzione, del valore di 20.000 euro, culminerà con la produzione di un’opera (o un ciclo di opere) da presentarsi ad ArtVerona 2025 e che entrerà a far parte della prestigiosa UniCredit Art Collection.
La natura particolare del premio intende stimolare, attraverso il lavoro artistico, la ricerca di soluzioni creative e non convenzionali rispetto alle attuali problematiche ambientali, economiche e sociali, come la tutela della biodiversità, la rigenerazione urbana, la rivalutazione del territorio, l’energia pulita o i processi di riciclaggio innovativi, al fine di delineare un paradigma nuovo e più sostenibile del rapporto tra l’umanità e il pianeta.

Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award
The prestigious award supported by UniCredit, conceived, organized and promoted by Urbs Picta, with the curatorship of Jessica Bianchera and the collaboration of Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea - University of Verona and Veronafiere S.p.A. - ArtVerona in support of artistic research on the theme of environmental sustainability, is back.
Applications will open next July, and the call is aimed at artists, or collectives, represented by the Galleries participating in ArtVerona 2024.
Also for its second edition, the call is addressed to artists and artists, or collectives, represented by the Galleries participating in ArtVerona 2024, a well-known contemporary art fair in Verona, invited to propose transdisciplinary research projects, in collaboration with scientists, anthropologists or experts in ecology and sustainability, aimed at the production of a new work of art through residencies in Italy and/or abroad, which will allow the artist to get in touch with different cultural and scientific experiences.
In line with the first edition, a renewed jury composed of selected internationally renowned artists, curators, experts and scholars will decide the winning project.
The Residency and Production Prize, worth 20,000 euros, will culminate in the production of a work (or cycle of works) to be presented at ArtVerona 2025 and which will become part of the prestigious UniCredit Art Collection.
The special nature of the prize aims to stimulate, through artistic work, the search for creative and unconventional solutions with respect to current environmental, economic and social issues, such as the protection of biodiversity, urban regeneration, land revaluation, clean energy or innovative recycling processes, in order to outline a new and more sustainable paradigm of the relationship between humanity and the planet.

Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award is the new and prestigious award supported by UniCredit, conceived, organized and promoted by Urbs Picta with the collaboration of Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea - University of Verona, Veronafiere S.p.A., as part of the articulated project TOMORROWS - Notes on the future of the Earth, presented within ArtVerona 2023 and aimed at bringing attention to the relationship between art and sustainability.
L’artista romana, presentata da The Gallery Apart, con il progetto “Alcina” vuole indagare le relazioni tra comunità femminili e territori, ridefinendo al tempo stesso il perimetro dei saperi scientifici delle donne intorno all’etnobotanica e l’etnozoologia.
Questa la motivazione dei giurati: “Luana Perilli ha concepito un progetto artistico complesso, rilevante e attento alle necessità e alle preoccupazioni odierne. La sua proposta si impegna a favorire un ampio dibattito e una collaborazione tra le arti e le scienze, mettendo allo stesso tempo in discussione il concetto stesso di scienza attraverso genealogie alternative di produzione di conoscenza strutturate sulle storie delle donnə. La natura investigativa del suo lavoro è un potente esempio di ricerca sociobiologica interspecifica intrecciata con conoscenze indigene e mostra competenze e sensibilità che includono e vanno oltre ciò che è generalmente considerato “artistico”, prospettando risultati multimediali basati sull’esperienza diretta del territorio e sviluppati collettivamente attraverso pratiche comunitarie”.

The Roman artist, presented by The Gallery Apart, with her project "Alcina" aims to investigate the relationships between women's communities and territories, while redefining the perimeter of women's scientific knowledge around ethnobotany and ethnozoology.
This is the jurors' motivation: "Luana Perilli has conceived a complex, relevant artistic project attentive to today's needs and concerns. Her proposal is committed to fostering a broad debate and collaboration between the arts and sciences, while at the same time challenging the very concept of science through alternative genealogies of knowledge production structured on the histories of donnə. The investigative nature of her work is a powerful example of interspecific sociobiological research interwoven with indigenous knowledge, and shows skills and sensitivities that include and go beyond what is generally considered "artistic," envisioning multimedia outcomes based on direct experience of the land and developed collectively through community practices."

Ispirandosi all’omonima opera di Georg Friedrich Händel del 1735, Perilli fa riferimento alla maga Alcina, che trasforma le persone in animali, pietre e piante e regna su un’isola insieme alla maga Morgana, in un mondo popolato da creature non umane capaci di parlare.
Il sapere scientifico delle donne, legato a chimica, medicina e biologia, è sempre stato tramandato oralmente, intrecciato a narrazioni ed esperienze condivise. Questo sapere ha spesso associato le donne all’immagine di maghe o streghe.Alcina esplora il rapporto delle comunità femminili con la fauna, la flora e le narrazioni orali, mettendo in luce una capacità alternativa di comprendere e trasmettere le possibilità di trasformazione della realtà.
Inspired by Georg Friedrich Händel's 1735 opera of the same name, Perilli refers to the sorceress Alcina, who transforms people into animals, stones and plants and reigns on an island together with the sorceress Morgana, in a world populated by nonhuman creatures capable of speech.
Women's scientific knowledge, related to chemistry, medicine and biology, has always been passed down orally, intertwined with narratives and shared experiences. This knowledge has often associated women with the image of sorceresses or witches.Alcina explores the relationship of women's communities to fauna, flora, and oral narratives, highlighting an alternative capacity to understand and convey the transformative possibilities of reality.
Creando una comunità temporanea e un’intelligenza collettiva che ha attraversato il territorio di Fontecchio, la residenza ha dato valore a figure e competenze del territorio, oltre ad aver permesso l’espressione e la condivisione di saperi e competenze proprie di ciascuna delle partecipanti.
Infine, la contaminazione tra le differenti età in residenza, valorizzata dalla presenza delle piccole partecipanti, ha permesso una fioritura di letture diversificate delle informazioni condivise e la scoperta di punti di vista anche inusuali nella trasmissione del sapere e nelle metodologie di apprendimento, di cui l’espressione artistica del laboratorio conclusivo, guidata da Luana Perilli, ne è stata il perfetto coronamento.
By creating a temporary community and a collective intelligence that traversed the territory of Fontecchio, the residency gave value to local figures and skills, as well as allowed for the expression and sharing of knowledge and skills specific to each of the participants.
Finally, the contamination between the different ages in the residency, enhanced by the presence of the small participants, allowed a flowering of diversified readings of the shared information and the discovery of even unusual points of view in the transmission of knowledge and learning methodologies, of which the artistic expression of the concluding workshop, led by Luana Perilli, was the perfect crowning glory.
